My name is Ayan Mukherjee and I go by the moniker of The Working Man’s Therapist in Toronto. Welcome to my home on the internet. As a Registered Psychotherapist (Q), I specialize in anxiety, low self-esteem, men’s issues, childhood trauma, PTSD and EMDR Therapy.
I graduated with a diploma in Holistic Psychotherapy from the Transformational Arts College, Toronto, in early 2016. Since then I have trained in trauma-informed, somatic therapies, such as EMDR Therapy, Internal Family Systems, Structural Dissociation and Brainspotting. I am also a Certified Hypnotist with the National Guild of Hypnotists and I practice clinical hypnotherapy. If you are intrigued by hypnosis and wonder how it can help you, then please message me.
I am also a founding member of an alliance of integrative mental health and wellness practitioners, called The Healing Therapy Alliance, which is located in the Yonge and Eglinton area.
I transitioned to become a psychotherapist from a 9-year long successful career in commercial banking. I discovered the power of good psychotherapy, while dealing with my own issues. I experienced extensive healing and transformation over a period of 3-4 years, while completing therapy school, before I felt I was ready to start seeing my own clients.
I truly understand the anxieties and awkwardness associated with going to see a therapist, especially for the first time. I have been there, done that. This understanding and my corporate background, drives my passion to be an approachable and collaborative therapist, especially for men who have never experienced therapy before and who might be skeptical of the process.
I have an East Indian background, speaking Hindi and Bengali. I grew up in India and I have lived in the Middle East for a few years. This informs my culturally sensitive method of counselling, which is crucial for serving a city like Toronto.
I also enjoy delivering seminars and workshops. In terms of interests, I love to write, play some music (guitar and hand drums), into freestyle dancing, Krav Maga and I am a camping and bushcraft enthusiast.
Lately, I have reconnected with my childhood hobby of drawing and doodling. Check out my mental health art work on Instagram and follow me there.
