About Ayan

Ayan Mukherjee psychotherapist toronto working man's therapist

My name is Ayan Mukherjee and I go by the moniker of The Working Man’s Therapist in Toronto. Welcome to my home on the internet. As a Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying), I specialize in working with clients recovering from traumatic experiences, workplace mental health challenges and men’s personal growth.

I graduated with a diploma in Holistic Psychotherapy from the Transformational Arts College, Toronto, in early 2016. Since then I have trained in trauma-informed, somatic therapies, such as EMDR, Internal Family Systems and Structural Dissociation. I am also a Certified Hypnotist with the National Guild of Hypnotists and I practice clinical hypnotherapy. If you are intrigued by hypnosis and wonder how it can help you, then please message me.

Before finding my true calling as a psychotherapist, I had a 9-year long successful career in corporate banking. I discovered the power of good psychotherapy, while dealing with my own issues. I experienced extensive healing and transformation over a period of 3-4 years, before I felt I was ready to start seeing my own clients.

I truly understand the anxieties and awkwardness associated with going to see a therapist, especially for the first time. I have been there, done that. This understanding and my corporate background, drives my passion for improving workplace mental health, especially amongst men.

I have an East Indian background, speaking Hindi and Bengali. I grew up in India and for a few years in the Middle East. South Asian and Middle Eastern cultures still hold a lot of stigma around mental health and seeing a therapist. I am doing my bit to change that and I regularly see clients of South Asian and Middle Eastern heritage. Often I am their first therapist, which is a great honour, as well as a big responsibility.

I also enjoy delivering seminars and workshops. In terms of interests, I love to write. I am an amateur musician (guitar and hand drums), into authentic movement and Contact Improvisation and a camping, bushcraft and kayaking enthusiast. Lately, I am also earning some fame as a home chef, amongst my friends.
