Love Washing – What is it and How to Avoid it

Love Washing – What is it and How to Avoid it

There is a lot of evolving going on. We are learning more everyday about how to communicate with others and with ourselves. We are learning that thoughts hold quantifiable power, and that what we think, we become.

Positive thinking and positive intentions can help us overcome many things in life from small trivial instances to big traumatic events. The power of positive thought has much merit, and yet, we must be careful not to go around ‘love-washing’ everything.

What do I mean by love washing?

Very much like how the environmental movement came with a long stream of ‘green washing’, the positive thinking/New Age movement comes with lots of love washing. This means smothering your life experience with love – to the point that we become emotionally numb; because we are telling ourselves that everything is ‘all good’ and ‘it’s all love’,  even if we are feeling pain, or have been hurt by another.

We can feel the heaviness in our being when we love wash, we can feel it in our bodies; we know when we are lying to ourselves. This ignorance of the darker and heavier experiences is not the point of conscious evolution. This encourages us to suppress any negative feelings, rather than embracing and facing them.

This can happen to all of us, and it displays well in abusive relationships and in the company of narcissists (and yes, this happens in spiritual communities too). It is self-degradation, physiological malice, and spiritual dis-connect.

Open your eyes. We need to re-connect, understand our light and heal ourselves through conscious love. Open your hearts. Love is an energetic vibration, and in order to increase our frequency, to become more in flow with the frequency of love, we need to learn to embrace ourselves fully with compassion and unconditional love.  Then, we can start to lighten the emotional load.

Being more vulnerable allows us to accept ourselves more fully, and approach our feeling and healing with a greater capacity for love.  The more we allow our self-love to grow, the more we can accept a lightness within ourselves. Though, as the lightness grows, the darkness is sure to unfold as well. We must process this, digest the experience and utilize the process, as it is the evolution of ourselves.

One of my favourite mantras is ‘SA, TA, NA, MA’ representing our evolving, transformational selves:  SA is the beginning, infinity, the totality of everything that ever was, is or will be. TA is life, existence and creativity that manifests from infinity. NA is death, change and the transformation of consciousness. MA is rebirth, regeneration and resurrection which allows us to consciously experience the joy of the infinite.

Beautiful.

Everything – existing, creating, dying, regenerating, rebirthing, we are all of these things.  We experience our evolution with awareness, so sometimes, life is supposed to feel like it is at a standstill, sometimes life feels dynamic and creative and sometimes it’s painful and heart wrenching. We learn and are transformed by our experiences. We can then look at life through a new perspective as we have grown and watched ourselves go through the process. What an amazing existence we have!

So, instead of love washing everything and everyone – own your shit, own your emotions, own your experience for real, or as authentically as you can, in this illusionary world.

Love,
