Do you feel that just because you haven’t published a best-seller, traveled the world, constructed a healing center or healed millions with your words and touch, that you are not living up to the exacting standards of your higher purpose?
Welcome to the Higher Purpose Scam. Another invention of the New Age/Personal Growth movement that is meant to make people feel inadequate in just being their regular, everyday selves.

What is the Higher Purpose Scam?
The Higher Purpose Scam has been created by the Powers-that-Be within the New Age/Personal Growth establishment as a marketing gimmick and a hook to keep you entrapped as an unquestioning, lucrative customer.
The concept states that we are all divinity (which we are) and hence we are limitless in our potential to create. Hence if you are not living a larger than life, extraordinary existence, then you are pretty much wasting your life. You are doing something wrong if you are not already rich and famous, while doing what you “love”. Hence you have to buy these books, attend these “abundance workshops”, do your best to become a millionaire, etc. You do all the affirming and wanting, while someone else lines their purse with your Higher Purpose.
How does it affect us?
It affects us by making us feel grossly inadequate for being who we are. Not everyone has a life plan to be rich and famous.
Why is it called “Higher” purpose?
Does it mean that your day-to-day existence is then some sort of menial, lower purpose?
If we are living gods then doesn’t it mean that whatever we do is majestic in its own way?
Be it a serene walk through a park in spring or getting kissed by your kid as you send her off to school.
Looking at the ordinary through the lenses of the extraordinary doesn’t make you feel inadequate, it actually empowers you.
But there isn’t much money to be made from that, is there? It doesn’t make you crave to be someone you are not. Where is the money in that?
The Truth behind our purpose in life
I like to take the word “Higher” out of “Higher Purpose”. We are here on Earth, taken birth in human form to perfect certain concepts.
It could be self-love, self-acceptance, compassion, loving assertiveness or what have you. As humans we need to experience both sides of the story to learn from it. If we choose one life as an overachiever, who has made it in the world, then our soul may want to choose another life as a nondescript underachiever living in his mom’s basement, having nothing to show for himself.
Then what can we aspire for?
Hence in that case there is nothing to aspire for, you say? Not entirely.
You see, the universe is awfully efficient in its workings. If you have done tons of experiencing on both sides of the fence for a particular concept, then you have accumulated a lot of wisdom over time, around that concept.
The universe is now going to help you share that wisdom with the rest of the world and then that becomes your prime responsibility in this life. I wouldn’t say that it is your purpose though. Because our only purpose, in my opinion, is to revel in our human existence, enjoy it and learn the lessons that we came here for in the first place.
This is now your responsibility.
A responsibility that you have chosen to fulfill and which now comes naturally to you. Then the universe will conspire to help you deliver on your responsibility and it will NEVER make you feel inadequate.
Live, love, laugh and enjoy your human experience. It is our only purpose here on Earth. When the fruits of our wisdom ripen, then the universe will find us a way for us to share it with the world around us
Finally, live, love, laugh and enjoy your human experience. It is our only purpose here on Earth. When the fruits of our wisdom ripen, then the universe will find us a way for us to share it with the world around us. The bestseller, the healing clinic, the retreat centre, will then come easily, without much effort. Feel adequate for being who you are. Find the extraordinary in your ordinary life and the extraordinary will take care of itself.
