My name is Ayan Mukherjee and welcome to my home on the internet, EMDR Therapy Toronto. As a Registered Psychotherapist and a Certified EMDR Therapist and Consultant, I specialize in EMDR Therapy, anxiety, low self-esteem, childhood trauma, PTSD and dissociative disorders.
I graduated with a diploma in Holistic Psychotherapy from the Transformational Arts College, Toronto, in early 2016. Since then I have trained in trauma-informed, somatic therapies, such as EMDR Therapy, Internal Family Systems, and Structural Dissociation.
I transitioned to become a psychotherapist from a 9-year long successful career in commercial banking. I discovered the power of good psychotherapy, while dealing with my own issues. I experienced extensive healing and transformation over a period of 3-4 years, while completing therapy school, before I felt I was ready to start seeing my own clients.
I truly understand the anxieties and awkwardness associated with going to see a therapist, especially for the first time. I have been there, done that.
Also as a survivor of trauma you may have felt misunderstood, or even been abused by mental health practitioners. You may have tried CBT and when that didn’t help, you may have been shamed for not trying harder, or for being “too much” for your therapist. I see you and I applaud your courage for choosing to trust yet another therapist in your healing journey.
These issues teach me to be an approachable, collaborative and results-oriented therapist, especially for those who have never experienced therapy before, or those who haven’t had the best experience with “talk-only” therapists.
I like to make sure that my clients understand the treatment plan that we develop collaboratively, why and how we use different modalities in each session, and develop a focus on tracking results and growth achieved after each session.
I have an East Indian background, speaking Hindi and Bengali. I grew up in India, I have lived in the Middle East for a few years, and I have been a proud Torontonian since late 2010. This informs my culturally sensitive method of counselling, which is crucial for serving a city like Toronto. I am also a dad of two daughters and can appreciate the challenges faced by parents who are working hard to not pass down their trauma to their kids.
I am also a mental health illustrator and the owner of the Etsy store – Therapy Illustrated. I create mental health art for psycho-educational and inspirational purposes. I have published 3 visual aids flipbooks on EMDR Therapy, General Trauma Therapy, and Attachment Trauma & Dissociation. Check out my mental health art work on Instagram and follow me there.
